Storybook Adventure: Fall Colors

  • Crowvember took a break from admiring his feathers in a puddle and breathed in the crisp fall air. Autumn was his favourite time of the year. "There's nothing better than the brisk weather and the brilliant colours of the fall leaves," he thought. "The colours of the leaves... wait a second." Crowvember snapped to attention and looked up at the trees. Something was very wrong!
  • Crowvember gasped in surprise. The leaves of the trees surrounding him were still green! "Didn't I see some yellow leaves earlier?" he thought. "Where is the orange and the red?" With a flap of his wings, Crowvember leapt up to a nearby tree branch for a better view. The new perspective confirmed Crowvember's fears. His favourite fall colours were nowhere to be seen!
  • "OK, don't panic," Crowvember told himself. He took a few deep breaths of crisp autumn air to clear his head. The Forest definitely needed its fall colours, that was certain. Crowvember was also certain that he didn't know what was going on. He needed to talk to a friend who might have some idea what's going on. Crowvember took flight, winging his way through the woods in search of help.
  • As Crowvember flew, it came to him. He needed to find Fall Foal! With her love of all things autumn and orange, she was one of the few creatures to care as much about the season as he. She also seemed to be more aware of the Forest's occurrences, so she may have some idea why the colours hadn't come yet this year. Crowvember hung a sharp left and set a course for the vale where Fall Foal usually resided.
  • As the Crowvember flew hurriedly among the boughs and branches, a noise suddenly caught his attention. Just ahead, it sounded as if an animal was coming towards him at full speed! Crowvember barely had time to alight on a branch before the Fall Foal burst from the foliage and skidded past, narrowly missing him.
  • "I've been looking for you everywhere!" Fall Foal panted. "And I've been looking for you!" Crowvember squawked happily. Crowvember started to explain the worrisome lack of fall colours he had noticed, but Fall Foal quickly interrupted him. She was looking for him due to the exact same reason. "Well, what can we do?" Crowvember asked. Fall Foal thought for a second then replied, "I think I know who we need to find."
  • Crowvember chirped with excitement. "Well, let's find her!" he exclaimed. "Hop on!" Fall Foal replied. With Crowvember on her back, Fall Foal raced to the heart of the Forest. Before long, they began to notice a few yellow leaves among the green, and soon spotted the Fall Fairy in a clearing amidst trees in full autumn regalia. The fairy was hard at work changing the trees' colours, and had a worried expression on her face.
  • Crowvember and Fall Foal called out to the Fall Fairy. Despite her apparent worries, the Fall Fairy broke into a big smile at the sight of the two colourful animals. "It's beautiful here!" Crowvember exclaimed, "but what is happening with the rest of the Forest? The fall colours are missing." The Fall Fairy sighed. "I've always helped the Forest change colours, but since it has continued to grow it has become too big a job for just me."
  • Without hesitation, Crowvember and Fall Foal volunteered to help. The Fall Fairy gave each animal a jar of her pixie dust and instructed them to sprinkle it on any tree they saw. In moments the three creatures headed off in different directions through the Forest. With the assistance of the two agile animals, the entire Forest was in brilliant fall colours by sun down.
  • With the Forest now completely covered in brilliant colours, the three companions surveyed their work. "I could have never done this alone," the Fall Fairy said. Crowvember and Fall Foal looked at each other, and then Crowvember replied, "From now on, you won't have to!" From that day forward, every year Crowvember and Fall Foal helped the Fall Fairy bring autumn to the Forest.
